A snippet of my celebrant origin story
Some dreams do come true⦠More than two years ago J and B practically ran up Mount Kosciusko with a 6 week pregnant me. On the drive home I was the designated driver (Wildbrumby is so great!) and a little deliriously exhausted when the topic of their recent engagement came up.
Weddings bring up a lot of things; complexities, memories, sensitivities, joy! Some of these are easily navigated, whereas others can be very challenging. J and B knew that their families had very different cultural and religious backgrounds and worried about how they would compromise for the best solution. Thatβs where the idea of my becoming a celebrant came along. Self-doubt, a small human and many highs and lows later, this weekend finally arrived!
Yesterday was such a huge emotional day, not only was my husband a groomsman, my son (the product of that pregnancy - and already a mountain climber!) βhelpingβ with preparations; but I was celebrant, shared MC and bridesmaid for this pair of gorgeous weirdos!
What a weekend of laughter, tears, gorgeous live music, hospital visits, community support, extreme weather, and loving hard work. The wind ripped branches off the trees, thunder crashed, hail fell and rain blew sideways in the 20 minutes before J was due to walk the aisle! Talk about emotional roller coaster!! And then at 3:30 J walked down the aisle to a string trio of friends and family, bathed in sunshine with a fairly gentle breeze! That 38 minute window between rain bands was all we needed to get in a ceremony full of feels, and group photo overlooking the stunning valley, before high-tailing it to the shed while rain fell again with increasing gusto! I just feel lucky and grateful and relieved and satisfied!
In the midst of that I managed to forget my phone, but everything else went as much to plan as you can hope from real life!
